The EU4Ocean Coalition brings together people advancing ocean literacy and working for a sustainable blue economy.
The ocean sustains life by providing food, oxygen, and energy. It regulates climate, houses countless species and creates job opportunities in blue economy sectors.
Understanding how we influence the ocean and how the ocean influences us is at the core of ocean literacy.
By advancing ocean literacy, skills, and public engagement, the EU4Ocean Coalition contributes directly to the implementation of the European Ocean Pact. The knowledge created empowers EU citizens to make sustainable choices and supports a thriving EU blue economy.
The EU4Ocean Coalition integrates EU-wide activities with actions focused on all EU sea basins: Arctic, Atlantic, Baltic, Black, Mediterranean and North.
Supported by the European Commission, this inclusive, bottom-up initiative unites Europeans to make the ocean everyone’s concern
The EU4Ocean Coalition consists of three interconnected communities
EU4Ocean Platformbringing together organisations, blue economy actors and civil society to promote ocean literacy across the EU.
Youth4Ocean Forumfor young people and early-career professionals, aged 16 to 30 and based in the EU, who care about the ocean.
Network of European Blue Schoolssupporting ocean education in schools and training institutes across the EU.

Challenge of the YearThe EU4Ocean coalition annually selects a Challenge of the Year to promote Ocean Literacy in the EU. This challenge is accompanied by a Call for collective action, offering financial support to selected proposals meeting specified criteria.

#MakeEUBlue AwardsCelebrating progress in ocean literacy, these awards highlight initiatives fostering awareness about the importance of the ocean and promoting sustainable practices. Each year the winners are selected by public voting and by a high-esteemed Advisory Board of experts.
