News: Join the Algae4IBD summer school on 15-26 July 2024 – Register now!

Taking place at the Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR), University of Algarve, in Faro, Portugal, this interdisciplinary summer school is a two-week course for PhD students and early post-docs to discover bioactive compounds in algae.

Registrations are open until 7 April 2024. Don’t miss out!

Algae4IBD’s summer school will address the necessity to look into sustainable and unexplored natural sources to find novel bioactive molecules for functional food and disease treatment. Using the example of algae and inflammatory bowel disease, the course will explore the diverse aspects of compound discovery and product development:

  • What is the potential of macroalgae, microalgae and cyanobacteria and how to best cultivate them?

  • How to improve algae strains and increase compound extraction to an industrial scale?

  • What bioactivity tests are established and how do they work?

  • How to identify compounds?

  • What to consider when developing algae-based products?

  • How to cook delicious algae-based food?

  • How to pave a career?

Additionally, participants will get a behind-the-scenes peek into a microalgae production company and research facilities, enjoy relaxed networking opportunities, and participate in fun group activities in and around the city of Faro.
