The MBRC the ocean Foundation is a German non-profit organization established in 2020 as a response to the tide of ocean plastic, supporting heavily-impacted communities around the world by organizing cleanups and implementing waste management and recycling systems, ensuring that the plastic recovered is reused in support of a zero-waste circular economy. An educational programme runs parallel to the cleanup projects, with school lessons, briefings and presentations teaching both children and adults in the local communities about single-use plastic, its impact on the environment and what alternatives and solutions exist. The aim is to provide these communities with adequate equipment, infrastructure and knowledge so that they are empowered to protect and preserve their ocean environment both now and into the future. Closer to home, the Foundation runs an online ocean plastic course and organizes workshops and events to inspire European school children to be ocean champions, recognizing that even in the face of a global problem individual actions still matter.
