LIFEAdaptCalaMillor

Short description of the action

LIFE AdaptCalaMillor is a governance project with the purpose of promoting adaptation to climate change in the beach system and the urban area of the bay of Cala Millor. Its primary objective is to strengthen the resilience of infrastructure, ecosystem services and socioeconomics to the impacts of climate change in the long term. - We combine science, participation and governance to build a local adaptation plan in a global change landscape. - We want to take a step forward in finding solutions to adapt urban beaches to climate change. - Cala Millor Bay: a real-life scenario for understanding and mitigating the effects of climate change on urban beaches. The project focuses on new science-based methodologies and participatory and governance schemes to improve the understanding of physical processes on an urban beach and anticipate possible changes in its morphology in response to global climate change scenarios. Main actions involve: 1. Governance: Stakeholder and citizen participation. Active participation of key stakeholders, encompassing public, private, academic and civil society sectors. The aim is to raise public awareness of the risks and impacts of climate change, promoting the understanding of measures that contemplate nature-based solutions as a part of a dialogue with society, ensuring that their needs and demands are considered. 2. Assessing the impacts and risks of global change. Developement of a comprehensive and replicable methodology to assess the hazards and risks associated with this urban beach and identify the scope and implications of these changes on the dynamics of the beach, the natural environment, and urban and socioeconomic systems. 3. Assessment and adaptation strategies. Creation of a comprehensive catalog of strategies, evaluated under scientific and sustainable criteria, addressing the challenges in the physical, environmental, socioeconomic and urban dimensions of the beach 4. Participatory and integrated climate change adaptation project. Election and design of adaptation strategies to climate change in Cala Millor. It seeks to reach science-based agreements for short and long term strategies, integrating applicable solutions and specific urban projects. 5. Sustainability, replicability and exploitation of project results, ensuring the replicability and sustainability of the Participatory and Integrated Adaptation to Climate Change project in Cala Millor, extending its benefits to regional, national and international levels. 6. Communication and dissemination of the LIFE AdaptCalaMillor project, seeking an effective dissemination of its results. The aim is to ensure understanding of the project objectives, increase local participation, and raise awareness of the need for climate change adaptation measures. Communication and dissemination activities, presence in social networks, and an impact at local, regional, national and European level are expected. This integrated approach seeks not only to disseminate results, but also to establish a solid basis for the replication and transfer of project methodologies.
