This project is part of the official LOMLOE curriculum for the first year of Bachillerato. Specifically, it belongs to the subject of Biology, and more precisely to the section on ecosystems.
Among the objectives of the project, the following were highlighted: reinforcing the knowledge about ecosystems previously studied in the classroom, discovering aquatic ecosystems and personally experiencing the differences between them and terrestrial ecosystems, valuing the natural heritage of the local area, and learning how to preserve and appreciate it.
The project was developed through a series of activities scheduled throughout the academic year, which were carried out during Biology classes (information research, small research assignments, and presentations in front of classmates, among others). All this work culminated in a final activity in which participating students took part in a field trip to a marine ecosystem, specifically the Posidonia oceanica meadows located in the area of l’Ametlla de Mar. There, with the guidance of a group of scientists specialized in marine studies, students received a training session about this ecosystem, which concluded with a snorkeling immersion that allowed them to directly observe everything they had been studying.
Throughout the project, different methodologies were used to achieve the established objectives: research using bibliographic sources and websites, explanations and presentations (both by teachers and researchers, as well as by classmates), together with direct observation and live study of the ecosystems examined.
