The +ATLANTIC CoLAB is a not-for-profit R&D+I Portuguese Collaborative Laboratory that conceives and provides knowledge-based products and services related to various fields of the blue economy, ocean sustainability, marine science, marine ecosystem's health, climate change, ocean literacy, and science communication.Maçarico is the +ATLANTIC's Ocean Literacy project that aims to foster ocean science education leading to the empowerment of young people and contributing to the construction of a society better informed and more participatory. At the same time, our ocean literacy program targets different sectors of society (school systems, private companies, and governance institutions). Several activities of Maçarico already took place in Portuguese schools and involved more than 1500 students up to 18 years old. The activities offer a playful and science-based way to learn about the origin of the ocean and its importance for the planet, reinforcing knowledge through scientific experiments.Projeto 19 is one of the project's activities, combining ocean literacy, science education and science communication by inviting high school students to convert scientific marine research papers into communication activities and artistic performances.
