Our school has implemented an environmental education project in collaboration with the “Adopt a Beach” programme of WWF Ελλάς.
Students participated in a real beach cleanup activity at a beach in Paleochora, Crete. During the activity, they collected marine litter, recorded and categorized the types of waste found, and discussed their possible sources and environmental impact.
After the field activity, students analyzed the collected data in the classroom. They reflected on marine pollution issues, particularly plastic waste, and explored how human behaviour affects coastal ecosystems.
The project included collaborative group work, where students created awareness materials such as posters and short presentations based on their findings. These were shared within the school community through presentations and digital dissemination via the school’s website and social media channels.
This hands-on learning experience allowed students to connect theoretical knowledge with real environmental challenges, while developing teamwork, critical thinking, and environmental responsibility.
