I live in Jūrmala, a seaside resort town on the Baltic Sea. Ten years ago, I began collecting books about the sea. By 2018, I had a hundred of them - and decided it was time to share them. I opened the doors of our family home, where a separate room was given over to what would become the Sea Library. Now there are a thousand books about the sea, donated and sent from all over the world, and the collection keeps growing.

In 2022, I joined the National Library of Latvia's Library Development Centre as editor-in-chief of the Latvian Library Portal (biblioteka.lv) - a media platform for librarians, where I write, conduct interviews, and publish materials advocating for libraries and the people who work in them.

In 2025, I signed a contract with Facet Publishing in London: in June 2028, my book about sea libraries around the world will be published - mapping the libraries, initiatives, and archives across the globe that are connected to the sea in the most varied and unexpected ways.

The Sea Library was one of three case studies in a PhD thesis (2026) by Fiona Middleton (University of Southampton), dedicated to ocean literacy.
