This project connects students with the ocean through the real-life challenge of the Mini Transat 2025, a solo transatlantic sailing race. The main objective is to develop students’ understanding of maritime culture, ocean sustainability, and human resilience while fostering key competences such as critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving.
Students follow the race in real time, tracking routes, analyzing meteorological and oceanographic data, and studying the environmental conditions of the Atlantic Ocean.
They explore topics such as navigation systems, renewable energy on boats, salinity, marine ecosystems, and the impact of climate change on oceans. The project is based on a Project-Based Learning (PBL) and STEAM approach.
Students engage in interdisciplinary activities including designing boat prototypes, building instruments like anemometers, creating maps and infographics, and conducting data analysis. They also interact with real sailors and reflect on values such as effort, perseverance, and teamwork.
As final outputs, students produce scientific posters, physical models, digital presentations, and exhibitions shared with the school community during a final event.
Through this authentic and meaningful learning experience, students develop a strong connection with the ocean (“blue connection”), even from an inland context, understanding its global importance and their role as responsible citizens in protecting marine environments.
