The intervention in question is strictly connected to the operational capacity of the port basin, being an urgent project for the requalification of the aforementioned mooring caissons at the Acquasanta Breakwater, following the removal of the liquids present inside the caissons and their subsequent remediation. Indeed, in the 1980s, close to the 150,000 TPL dry dock, and as part of the infrastructural works for the construction of the Acquasanta Breakwater, the adjacent water spaces were also filled. This involved creating a mooring quay on the outer side for large oil tankers, and on the inner side, a large walkable area intended for shipyard activities. Over time, and especially as a consequence of significant atmospheric events, the basins have surely been compromised in their functionality, and require immediate intervention in order to protect the environmental health and safety which could be compromised by the loss and leakage of material into the sea. The waste will be removed by pumping/surface aspiration of the fluids for the subsequent phase of storage and transport. Upon completion of the removal operations of all present waste, the remediation of the basins will proceed through their cleaning, which will be carried out by pressure hydro-washing of the walls, ceilings , and the bottom of the basin using rotating washing heads. The subsequent requalification works include activities for the disassembly and disposal of the residual metallic structures present at the mooring caissons of the degassing plant, including the pumps, protective railings, and access hatches. The operational modalities for the requalification works will consist of the following activities: 1.Verification of the state of conservation and stability of the structures to be disassembled; 2.Controlled removal and separation of metallic and non-metallic components; 3.Delivery of the materials to authorized recovery, valorization, or disposal facilities; 4. Definitive closing of the hatches and access points using suitable sealing and protection systems, in order to guarantee the safety of the area and prevent accidental entry. The mooring basins will finally be secured by filling them with inert materials sourced from recycling centers and sediments of suitable environmental characteristics. The works in question do not entail any modification to the organizational or structural layout of the port facilities; rather, they exclusively concern waste disposal and the environmental securing of the areas. Consequently, the intervention is categorized as extraordinary maintenance aimed at the environmental and structural upgrading of the area and the reuse of a section of the quay, which has been unusable since the initial judicial seizure (2012), with the possibility of immediate revenue generation. In a neighboring area, underwater inspections have been conducted through which the authority is proceeding to draft an intervention plan for environmental remediation and the restoration of seabeds for the safety of navigation and the protection of the marine seabeds
