OBJECTIVES:
· Introduce marine ecology concepts through expert guidance and hands-on laboratory experiences.
· Encourage direct observation of aquatic organisms, exploring how biodiversity varies depending on physical and chemical characteristics.
· Develop scientific skills, such as observation, sampling, and microscopic analysis, using investigative and scientific research methods.
· Promote environmental awareness regarding marine biodiversity and the importance of coastal ecosystems.
· Raise students' awareness of the importance of water quality and the impact of human activities on aquatic ecosystems, as well as the need to reduce marine pollution.
· Promote a critical approach to water resource management and conservation, promoting best practices.
ACTIVITIES:
Analysis of the coastal environments of the Northern Adriatic, with a focus on biodiversity, climate change, and the role of science and humanity.
Morning curriculum for the first-year classes (8 classes, 160 students) exploring the topic through lectures, led by science and English teachers; a specific session led by expert marine biologists (TAO Organisation) who discussed the biodiversity of the Adriatic and presented their research on dolphins and turtles.
Trip to Lido di Spina, undertaking field activities such as birdwatching and identification, as well as building a turtle nest in the sand.
An extracurricular program, for the most interesting students, 20 participants, has been realised with six workshops to explore specific topics:
- dolphin photo-identification, water analysis, microscopic sampling of marine fauna collected from rocks, and fish dissection.
APPROACH:
Cooperative learning to analyse and produce multimedia proposals to obtain the adoption of a dolphin.
Work in groups to learn by doing, and produce a reasoned summary of their trip to the coast.
Publishing of the best articles on the school website and on TAO's social media.
