The common threads of the project were:
- The origin of the problem of microplastics.
- Before, now and future of plastic use.
- Alternatives to the current consumer society model.
- Which is our commitment?
In this project, we want students to understand that the indiscriminate use of plastics causes negative consequences for the marine habitat and people. We want students to become aware of personal habits that allow a change in the use of plastics. And finally, we want students to get to know the marine life that surrounds Menorca to appreciate its diversity and importance.
Among the activities we did, some of them were: listening to a rap song about a local association that fights again plastic in the sea, to read a storybook about marine diversity, to read about the action we can take to fight against the plastic in the sea and finally to write a story tale about some kids acting consciously and eco-friendly. In art, we made dragons sculptures out of plastic caps in order to reuse them and give them a second life. We collected the plastic caps from the rest of the student in the school, which they brought from their homes. Then we made graphics to see which class brought the most and compare them. Another activity was to prepare a presentation about tips to use less plastics in our daily life. We ended up the project collaborating with a local association called Per la mar viva, separating microplastics and going to clean a beach in our town, on foot.
