The Groupement de Recherche Océan et Mers (GDR OMER) (Ocean and Seas Research Group) aims to bring together researchers from various backgrounds, using an interdisciplinary approach, mainly in France. The aim is to respond to the need to characterise, anticipate and support the changes facing the Ocean today, within the framework of long-term prospective research.
The GDR OMER has 5 missions:
- Leading and federating scientific communities involved in the study of the oceans
- Coordinate interdisciplinary research activities on the ocean in the broadest sense of the term
- Monitor developments in the field in terms of results, new scientific challenges and societal issues
- Train for the development of research in society (journalists, magistrates, prefects, parliamentarians, etc.) and the transfer of knowledge
- Promote and share research findings on the ocean
