Green solutions from red seaweed: Optimised growth and bioac

Short description of the action

The project aim is to support the commercialization of the cultivation of asparagopsis seaweed for use in a methane-reducing feed ingredient for cattle. This is achieved through a focus on optimized cultivation conditions, production scaling, development of new analysis methods for bioactivity, adapted harvesting and processing methods, and stabilization of the bioactivity in the produced seaweed biomass from harvest to finished product.
The project is a 3-year project consisting of 5 work packages that cover the full value chain from cultivation of the seaweed biomass to stabilization and quality assessment of the finished feed ingredient.
The project team consists of DTU Aqua, who will lead the project and be responsible for cultivation optimization in relation to increased growth and increased bioactivity and business partner Maripure, who will take care of scaling and product evaluation.
At the end of the project we expect to be able to demonstrate an optimized and cost-effective production of asparagopsis seaweed with high bioactivity on a commercial scale.
