Baltic Sea Science Congress 2025

Short description of the action

The goals and ambitions of the Baltic Sea Science Congress 2025 are consistent with the strategy and assumptions of the Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters Charter. BSSC is the largest and longest-standing scientific conference devoted to the environment of the Baltic Sea and its catchment area. BSSC conferences, usually gathering around 300-400 people, are a place where the latest scientific research results in the field of physical oceanography, marine chemistry, ecology, geology and climatology are presented and discussed. They concern issues important for the management and protection of the Baltic Sea environment, such as climate change and its regional effects, eutrophication, anoxic zones, pollution, biodiversity and environmental services. This interdisciplinary event brings together researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders (e.g. HELCOM) to explore the multifaceted dynamics of the Baltic Sea and its catchment, examining the rich history, current functioning, and future prospects of this region. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and international collaboration, we aim to generate innovative solutions and build capacity to preserve and protect the unique marine environment of the Baltic Sea for generations to come. Over the course of the congress, we will delve into critical topics distributed among seven thematic sessions covering a wide range of disciplines and addressing fundamental scientific problems and challenges related to environmental protection and management of the Baltic Sea. More details about the planned sessions can be found at: https://www.bssc2025.pl/
