The "female Odyssea" is a research and outreach project which takes place in the northern Dodecanese islands, in Greece. The female Odyssea is a sailing expedition with all female crew, marine scientists and blue professionals (commercial diver & yacht master) and islanders. The objective is to make current the state of marine ecosystems visible to the local communities of the islands in order to promote the urgency and necessity of marine conservation and the implication of environmental policy and approach by the local stakeholders. The goal is to implicate professionals and active citizens in order to influence the decision making. The expected impact is to sensibilize the youth of the islands through conservation workshops in the local schools, and the participation in citizen science projects, and also to sensibilize the local stakeholders, fishermen, tourism agents, municipalities by sharing the scientific results and the urgency to take action for the preservation of the local marine environment, ecosystems, natural and cultural heritage
