The aim of the project is “to encourage students to take an active role in the protection of the seas and oceans by instilling in them a sense of environmental responsibility for the protection and sustainable use of water, the protection of ecosystems and biodiversity.”
In order to realize the objectives of the project, 27 activities were designed in accordance with the age and developmental level of the students. Within the scope of the project, experiments, creative art activities, observation, story writing, finding differences, connecting the dots, educational videos, virtual activities, excursions were organized, allowing students to have a deeper learning experience by combining theory and practice.
Our school has 4 administrators, 39 teachers, 1 special education class, 2 PIKTES (foreign students) classes and 1247 students in grades 1-2-3 and 4. Our school provides education to children between the ages of 7-10. Active participation of all students was ensured in class-based activities. Separate activities were organized with the special education class and PIKTES classes.
Care was taken to integrate activities with more than one school course and to cooperate with institutions and organizations. The results of the practical activities carried out during the project were included among the outputs. Some of them are: creative art activities (water cycle, corals, under the sea, underwater life with recycled materials, caretta caretta, watercraft-sail making) coding activity, dot joining origami fish making, writing a story about “ocean, sea”. In addition, an end-of-project video was created from the outputs of the activities carried out throughout the project. At the end of the project, students understood the relationship between water and climate change and became more sensitive to the protection of aquatic ecosystems and the promotion of biodiversity.
