GENERAL OBJECTIVE:
Raise awareness of the importance of preserving biodiversity of Beach Salt Marsh Miñor system (NW Spain, Galicia) as part of Natura 2000 Network and contribute to their protection through the participation of 42 students of 5th and 6th grade in a citizen science project.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
Objective 1. Learn about marine flora and fauna of Beach Salt Marsh Miñor system, a natural area part of Natura 2000 Network by using citizen science.
Activity 1. Presentation of the project to the students. Learn about the study area that will explore later. Present the citizen science project that will be focus on monitoring long term variations of intertidal organisms, plants living on dunes and seabirds feeding on the marsh.
Activity 2. Field trip where students will explore the area and will collect data following a scientific methodology. They will discover the different forms of life that inhabit a beach-dune-marsh environment and will be responsible to collect all data for being process in the classroom.
Activity 3. Analysis of the data collected during the field trip. These data will include intertidal organisms living on the beach, plants living on the dune, seabirds feeding on the marsh. We want they understand the importance of biodiversity to maintain the whole ecosystem.
Objective 2. Raise awareness of the importance of preserving the biodiversity of the beach and marshland and propose solutions.
Activity 1. Create graphic material with impactful messages to be shared with the community.
Activity 2. Create a podcast to raise awareness of protecting the Beach Salt Marsh Miñor system with all the lessons learned.
