The Essence of Our School Emerges from the Sea
In Catalonia, the tradition of “Gegants” features cultural characters. At our school, the origin of our “Gegants” is rooted in the sea. To connect tradition with environmental education, students visit the beach weekly during recess to practice sustainability.
Our school spaces are named after oceanic themes (e.g., sand, lighthouse), fostering a connection to ocean culture. At the beginning of each year, students research their classroom’s name to raise awareness about ocean conservation and inspire responsibility.
Learning Through the Scientific Method
Students engage in projects based on the scientific method, collaborating with experts to understand ocean ecosystems and develop critical thinking and research skills on environmental issues.
Key Projects
"Petits oceanògrafs" (Little Oceanographers):
Fifth-grade students collaborated with the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM), exploring ocean features as young oceanographers. They presented their findings at the ICM Congress, sharing their research with students from other schools.
"Cuidem la nostra platja" (Let’s Take Care of Our Beach):
Kindergarteners (I4) visited the beach to collect and analyze items found on the sand, categorizing them as natural or man-made. Using this analysis, they created an infographic to educate peers and families on beach care.
"Quant plàstic hi ha a la nostra platja?" (How Much Plastic Is on Our Beach?):
Sixth-grade students calculated the amount of plastic on the nearby beach, integrating math skills into their research. Their findings were shared through infographics presented to the school community during Open Day.
By blending tradition, science, and sustainability, our school inspires environmental stewardship and fosters a deeper understanding of ocean conservation among students, families and community.
