Objectives:
The “Think Globally, Act Locally” Erasmus+ project 2023-1-FI01-KA210-SCH-000151550, implemented from September 2023 to October 2024 aimed to increase student awareness of biodiversity and environmental challenges while promoting practical solutions. The goals included fostering knowledge about biodiversity, encouraging international collaboration, and teaching digital and language skills. The project also emphasized exploring environmental issues beyond climate change, such as water preservation and terrestrial biodiversity.
Activities:
Students participated in activities centered on their "blue link" to the ocean and their broader environmental impact:
Water Conservation Focus in Greece:
Workshops on aquatic ecosystems, water quality testing, and clean-up campaigns.
Visits to Mesologgi Lagoon and Rio-Antirrio bridge for hands-on experiences.
Cultural and scientific explorations enhancing understanding of water-related ecosystems.
Virtual Art Exhibition:
Collaborative digital creation, themed “Water is Life, Treat it Right!”, using the Artsteps platform.
Students curated artwork related to water sustainability, accessible globally.
Distance Projects on Biodiversity:
Online modules covering aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, environmental threats, and conservation methods.
Group projects, such as analyzing landscapes and studying regional flora and fauna via PECHA KUCHA tool
Land and Biodiversity in Finland:
Fieldwork in diverse ecosystems (forests, lakes, swamps).
Workshops on invasive species management, local habitat restoration, and outdoor survival techniques.
Approach:
The project utilized a hands-on, interdisciplinary strategy combining technology, group work, and cultural exchange. Tools like eTwinning, Google platforms, and drones facilitated collaboration and research. Mobility visits and local events fostered real-world learning. The inclusion of underprivileged students underscored the project's accessibility and inclusivity.
