The Roadmaps for Wetland Restoration provides a holistic approach to restoring wetlands across Europe. It integrates ecological, social, and governance dimensions to create an effective strategy for planning, implementing, and evaluating wetland restoration projects. Traditional restoration techniques are combined with innovative approaches that address various socio-economic aspects. The goal is to engage stakeholders and facilitate knowledge exchange across different sectors, benefiting local communities, authorities, NGOs, and businesses. A key component is establishing Communities of Practice (CoPs), which enable stakeholders to collaborate, share best practices, and co-design restoration strategies. Additionally, the framework includes a pre-assessment of wetlands’ status to define restoration objectives. The roadmap also emphasizes communication tailored to different stakeholder groups, using educational materials and citizen science initiatives to engage communities in restoration efforts.
