In 2018, the La Corolla school launched the project: The Sea of Life, a service-learning project to learn more about our seas and oceans and their role as essential global resources carried out by the 4th grade students. Their work plan is: KNOW, SHARE, ENGAGE and COMMIT, the 4Cs.

The initial idea is that it is difficult to commit to something you do not know, to make other people aware if you are not previously aware of it, to share common objectives without feeling attachment and empathy for what you are committed to, which requires knowledge beyond the surface.

The story “The sea of life or Floti's mission” has been worked on in the school for 3 years and year after year they “dive” into the reality of our sea as co-inhabitants of the planet, a planet that is not only ours. They work from the awareness that people together can do a lot, that the sea needs us, the planet needs us following the maxim of the oceanographer Sylvia Earle, Princess of Asturias Award for Concord “No blue, no green. No ocean, no life. No ocean, no us”.

Among the actions proposed to accompany this story are:

(a) Claiming #MarineEducation and citizen science in the curriculum.
b) Networking with qualified agents to learn from day to day: IEO, Aquariums, and different associations involved in the protection of the sea Diversimar, Oceánicas, LifeIntemares, PLasticfree Cantábrico, fishing sector, International Society of Bioethics.
c) Create awareness campaigns and materials.
d) To carry out clean-up raids on coasts, rivers and bordering areas.
