The Mediterranean region, a cradle of biodiversity and human civilization, is at a critical juncture as it faces escalating pollution pressures from various sources. The project ‘Mediterranean…a pollution crossroad’, aims to address a pressing need: understanding and mitigating the complex interplay of pollution stressors that threaten the ecosystem health of this vital area. The project also aims to improve students' understanding of water resources and promote a sense of responsibility towards protecting Mediterranean Sea ecosystems. The students will recognize all the environmental problems arising from human-made activities in shaping the climate of the Mediterranean and deal, in particular, with the factors that cause climate change and chemical pollution of the seas.
Our main goal is to create a project in order to raise environmentally sensitive individuals and to encourage students to develop curious, creative and responsible ideas while ensuring that they are at the centre of the learning process. By empowering students with scientific knowledge and fostering a sense of agency in protecting local freshwater resources, the project will contribute to the long-term sustainability of these vital resources.
