My name is Alessia Careccia and thanks to my travels and diverse experiences, I’ve developed a strong passion for the sustainability and conservation of marine resources. Growing up by the sea, I’ve always been drawn to coastal areas, and when I travel, I prioritize sustainable tourism practices—minimizing plastic use, cleaning up polluted areas, respecting local ecosystems, and supporting local communities. In 2023, I embarked on a new role, working on a blue bioeconomy project under the Horizon Europe programme. This opportunity has been invaluable in expanding my knowledge, enabling me to explore ways in which value chains in coastal regions can be enhanced to benefit local communities and support their transition to more environmentally sustainable practices. EU projects allow to widen networks, know stimulating people and develop a personal attachment to certain topics: the activities described above and my inner passion for the sea have created in me the urge to upskill and get more involved in projects for the health of the oceans and the marine ecosystems.
