- Description
The EU-funded BlueRev project aims to stimulate innovation in the blue bioeconomy by facilitating the transition of local communities to sustainable blue economy models that can be adopted across Europe. The project started in September 2022 and will last until August 2025.
The project is analysing different value chains (e.g. use of fish side streams, marine bioactive compounds, red algae biomass), to understand social and economic barriers and potentialities in three different pilot regions (Denmark/Greenland, Italy and Estonia). This will allow to propose ways to improve governance frameworks and business models in these regions’ blue bio-based sector and to understand how local communities can be revitalized and environmentally responsible behaviours can be promoted.
Actors engaged through awareness-raising campaigns and training programmes include local and regional authorities, primary biomass producers, SMEs, civil society organisations, knowledge providers and marginalised groups. Engaging all these actors aims to improve communication among them about opportunities for collaboration along the bio-based value chains.
The project is coordinated by APRE (Agency for Promotion of European Research) and includes eight more partners across Europe: Food and Bio Cluster Denmark, University of Agder, Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research, Research Institute of Sweden, Estonian University of Life Sciences, University of Palermo and District of Fishiery and Blue Growth.
