The Blue Lesson - ICHBlue Legacy: Guardians of the Sea

Our project, ICHBlue Legacy: Guardians of the Sea, fosters environmental stewardship and ocean literacy, helping students establish their “blue link” to the Black Sea.

Objectives: Our project inspires awareness and responsibility towards marine ecosystems, focusing on sustainable practices to protect biodiversity and mitigate sea pollution.

Activities: More than 130 students engaged in hands-on activities, in partnership with Mare Nostrum NGO, researching local marine life, analyzing pollution sources, and exploring personal impacts on the ocean. They created educational posters, led community clean-up initiatives, and constructed models showing pollution’s effects on marine environments. These activities provided insights into how everyday actions affect ocean health.

Approach: The project used collaborative learning and experiential learning strategies. Students worked in groups to research and present findings using an inquiry-based approach. Experiential learning was reinforced through field trips to coastal areas and virtual discussions with marine biologists, connecting their studies to real-world challenges.

These activities actively involved 130 students in sea conservation, translating knowledge into meaningful environmental action. This project not only deepened their understanding of marine issues but also empowered them as proactive participants in preserving ocean ecosystems, fostering a foundation for long-term advocacy.
