Objectives:
•Gaining new knowledge in regards to the aquatic environment.
•Bringing the ocean in our classrooms. Integrate school disciplines like biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics into the study of the oceans depth, for scientific classes, as well as history, literature, arts, Latin, for the philology classes.
•The students taking the courses will gain skills, competences and values, over time, as the project will evolve. It is our belief that the project will open many doors for those who wish to follow career paths in marine disciplines.
•The community having involvement in the project will develop a sense of responsibility for spreading awareness and taking serious action in protecting our waters that house millions of lives.
Topic:
•The project includes students from primary, middle and high school.
•For primary school: Pupils will take part in courses about marine animal life (mammals and birds).
•For middle school: The students will be taught fish and fishing, regarding not only the biological parts, but also the safety precautions that are vital to protecting marine wildlife.
•For high school: The highschoolers will learn based on studies made on climate change, energy and resources, communication and it's structure.
Activities and Output:
In involvement of the project, the school schedule will allocate 2 hours/week of courses. The project will engage in multidisciplinary as well as interdisciplinary courses .
During the two thematic weeks allocated (special school week, green school week),the students will participate in a lot of activities projecting knowledge in marine life. They will go on subject-relevant field trips( to the Black Sea), will play outdoor sports and visit museums containing relevant matters.
The activities will need a special amount of time dedicated to specific literature, a complete written journal based on the experience, an arts and crafts session in which each team will develop a poster significant to the matter and a brain stimulating experiment in the specific lab, which relates to their project input.
In the final stage of the project the pupils must create a blog showing the total work and the process. It is in the student's best interest to communicate in various environments their total work and knowledge. Besides the blog and the final presentation, they should deliver specific material showing their interest in making a difference. They should organize events such as school exhibitions, Q&As events and practical workshops. They will deliver a real life layout that will show in detail and help to better understand and visualize the project's idea. To attract more attention to the matter the teams will have to create a booklet vaguely explaining the whole concept.
How are the students involved?
The students taking part will each have a team of 3/4. The teams will each be assigned a subject of their choice, partaking a huge role in the final project. As we are a bilingual institute everyone will write their detailed presentations in French. After partaking in the project, as each student will have their own itinerary showing their experience they will receive the title of project ambassador specifically in our school's premises.
