Developing a marine pollution prevention project for primary schools using the STEAM method is a great opportunity to provide students with scientific, technological, engineering, art and mathematical skills and at the same time increase environmental awareness. In our project, the STEAM components of the marine pollution prevention project at the primary school level are as follows:
• Science:
• Teach students the causes and effects of marine pollution with simple and fun experiments.
• Organize practical scientific activities, such as measuring seawater quality or making simple observations on marine organisms.
• Technology:
• Provide students with educational materials (AI) on marine pollution through online games or interactive applications.
• Introduce students to technology with simple robotics or programming activities. For example, you can have them design an environmental cleaning robot.
• Engineering:
• Have students design marine pollution cleanup tools using simple materials.
• Organize simple engineering projects to build mini marine research vessels or cleaning robots.
• Arts:
• Organize artistic activities such as painting or sculpting for students to express their feelings about marine pollution. (MAP from faste newspaper
• Create eco-friendly art projects using recyclable materials.
• Mathematics:
• Plan math lessons based on marine pollution statistics and graphs.
• Perform a mathematical analysis of the resources and costs used to prevent marine pollution.
You can offer students the chance to experience STEAM skills by making the project participatory, fun and meaningful. You can also organize an event or exhibition where students who complete the project can showcase the knowledge and solutions they gained. This allows students to share their learning and increase environmental awareness.
