The Black Sea is an inland sea between Southeast Europe and Asia Minor. Recent research shows that the Black Sea is one of the most plastic and waste polluted seas in the world. In the seas, as well as on the seabed, huge dumps are gradually formed, outlined by the sea currents closed in a circle. Man-made litter is a growing threat to marine habitats and poses serious environmental, economic and health risks. The majority of solid waste in the marine environment consists of materials that degrade very slowly, and therefore the ever-increasing amounts of waste reaching the seas and oceans leads to its accumulation in the marine environment and along the coast. This negative trend is confirmed by a number of studies in different regions, which unequivocally indicate that the situation with marine litter is worsening worldwide. Seas and oceans are fundamental to human well-being and well-being – they are trade routes, climate regulators, sources of food, energy and resources, and a preferred place for vacationers and tourists to stay and relax. Today we are at a crossroads in our interaction with the planet's seas and oceans. On the one hand, modern technology and know-how allow us to extract more value from the sea, with the flow of people to the shores constantly increasing. On the other hand, the overall effect of these activities leads to conflicts in the use of resources and to the deterioration of the marine environment on which human well-being depends. Black Sea pollution is also linked to some of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals - Combating Climate Change, Life Underwater and Partnerships for the Goals. The ecological problem of the Black Sea is not only a problem of the countries located around it, but of all countries related to pollution and. Large rivers flow into the Black Sea, which also pollute the waters and. The Danube River passes through 10 countries before flowing into Black Sea. Through the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles, polluted waters pass into the Mediterranean Sea and from there into the oceans. Does this problem affect everyone who lives along or away from the coast? To what extent are people informed about the state of the waters of the seas and oceans and what are their consequences? How should we change our habits and keep the waters of the seas clean? Involving students in studies on the ecological state of the Black Sea and conducting informational meetings with the community will give publicity and people will realize the need to change their habits. The problem of plastics in the marine environment was also noted in the final documents of the 2012 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, known as Rio+20. The section on marine ecosystems calls for the reduction of solid waste and persistent organic pollutants entering the seas.
Objectives:
1. increase in environmental education, awareness of the problem of pollution of the Black Sea, public awareness of the consequences and reduction of the problem;
2. revealing the relationship between water resources - society - climate;
3. increase the digital competence of teachers and students, motivation to learn and communicate with partners in English.
4. Education and raising awareness of the ecological state of the Black Sea
5. Cultural diversity and participation
In the project, students will study the problem of pollution of the Black Sea. They will present it with various digital tools. They will prepare a logo, poster and calendar for the project. They will study climate change and its relationship to marine pollution. They will investigate plastic in the Black Sea. They will prepare slogans for the protection of the Black Sea. I will create educational videos, models of plants and animals from plastic bottles or jugs. They will study the interaction of polluted seas on human health and prepare a manual for the protection of the Black Sea.
