I am a geospatial professional with a passion for the Earth and developing products that help us understand the various layers of our planet, especially the Ocean. My everyday research involves evaluating many satellite images that reveal the complexity of the marine environment. Through this analysis, I get to learn and understand better the processes that govern it, the interactions between the anthroposphere, atmosphere, geospehere and the marine waters and the impact our activities on their ecology. As a scientist, I am trained to analyse marine pollution, namely use computer algorithms to detect natural hydrocarbon release through seepage and separate from athropogenic marine pollution. As the ocean is a complex environment, I also use a wealth of biogeochemical and marine physical data to understand the processes behind it and correlate with my findings. I will paint the final picture using novel algorithms for detecting seepage, a phenomenon that has climate change and ecological implications. Furthermore, I enjoy talking about the Ocean, the Earth or general geoscience. I take pride in helping educating the next generations or the public and raising awareness about our changing world as well as volunteering for various open science and capacity building initiatives. Behind my speech lies a degree in Geography (BA), Geographic Information Science (MSc), Engineering Surveying and Space Geodesy (PhD) and over 5 years of developing geospatial projects for Romanian clients as a GIS specialist or the European Space Agency as a Young Graduate Trainee.
