The B-BLUE Project is multidisciplinary project, focused on the scope of increasing of Ocean Literacy and people commitment in pro-environmental behavior through Informal and Non-formal Education. It will be carried out in 3 years, from September 2022 to August 2025.Year 1: The first goal to be achieved is the understanding of the ocean literacy level in society. I’m currently on it with my PhD, working with primary schools and citizens in general using questionnaires and interviews. These searches will be held in five (at least) Italian coastal cities. Year 2: The second step will be defined tailored communication strategies to fill the gaps in societal knowledge about the 7 principles of Ocean Literacy, based on both Informa (Arts and Medias) and Non-Formal (Citizen Science) education. The established educational activities will be replicated in such Italian cities. [I already have planned activities in more detail]Year 3: The final step will be re-submitted questionnaire and interviews after two years at least and evaluate any changes in citizen’s lifestyle and awareness. This would allow us to estimate the effectiveness of the made communication. The collaboration of professionals from different sectors such as universities, music, entertainment, data analysts, administrators and schools will be necessary. After these first three years, I would like to extend the B-BLUE pilot project to all the European Mediterranean basin countries who would like to join us.
