The project started in 2021 and is ongoing. There are 2 goals of my project. First, to monitor if "Quiet Ocean" policies and regulations are effective in reducing ocean noise. For instance the impact of the European Marine Strategy Framework Directive or monitoring impact of Canada's Ocean Noise Strategy coming up in late 2022. Second, to standardize the process of collecting, analyzing, and projecting ocean noise data to enable time-series and inter-location comparison of ocean noise data. As ocean noise does not respect national borders, a common procedure to measure ocean noise will enable better monitoring leading to a greater impact on reducing acoustic noise pollutants. The target audience of this project are policymakers, media, and youths as all of them have the power to enable change in the society.
