Community engagement - work with local communities to solve local marine and social challenges and with high social acceptance potential

Our project is the first Lithuanian ocean literacy initiative, aiming to fight ocean blindness in the Lithuanian society through creation of educational content on our online platform, activity on social media and educational event organization. We also interview and share stories from scientists, divers and other ocean enthusiasts, this way seeking to inspire other people, promote ocean-related work carried out by Lithuanians and create a community spirit. The project mainly targets Lithuanian-speakers from 16 to around 50 years old, but does not exclude other age classes. Po bangom also pays a specific attention to secondary and high school students through collaborations with schools.Po bangom is a fresh project, launched on the 22nd of March, 2021, and currently is in its early growth phase. Nevertheless, being an innovative initiative in Lithuania, it has already started gaining some public attention. It is planned to be a long-term project with no particular end date. The team which founded and is running the project consists of three members: Laura Stukonytė, Gabrielė Tiškevičiūtė and Rimantė Balsiūnaitė. It is important to highlight that this is an all-women initiative, runned by women with a scientific background and with experience in communication. Our project not only improves accessibility to scientific information for Lithuanian-speakers, but also shifts the popular opinion that science and entrepreneurship are meant for men.
