Objective of the Workshop
The objective of this workshop is to help reinforcing the links between ESFRI infrastructures in the field of Environmental Sciences and e-infrastructures. It should help to create synergies between the various Environmental ESFRI infrastructures in their ICT and e-infrastructure developments, to foster the adoption of solutions already offered by current e-infrastructure projects, reducing existing gaps, and to identify remaining issues that require generic approaches or user community specific solutions.
The workshop will bring together coordinators of Environmental ESFRI infrastructures currently funded in their preparatory phase, (or in the process of preparing the grant agreements), and operators of e-infrastructures. It will thus offer the opportunity to discuss the ICT and e-infrastructure needs, commonalities and possible interfaces between the ESFRI projects in the field of Environmental Sciences.
The morning session will start with the common needs facing the 10 ESFRI projects, followed by the the specific needs of EMODNET. The common needs are, amongst others, in the area of real-time or near real-time data processing, data collection, large data storage, distributed data management, interoperability, metadata definition. This will be followed by a presentation on cultural and organisational issues in adopting e-infrastructure and ICT solutions.
The possible solutions and support provided by the existing e-infrastructures will be presented and discussed through input from the e-IRG/ESFRI Data Management Task Force as well as through experiences e-infrastructures.
The expected outcome of this workshop is a draft plan for common actions for the upcoming months, helping in particular to define future Research Infrastructure work-programmes, in particular help preparing the next call for proposals where an EU-support would be given to the clustering of ESFRI projects being implemented in the field of Environment.
