Following the Atlantic Seabed Mapping Workshop held in Dublin on the 2^nd December 2014, a Working Group was established to advance the recommendations and action points agreed at the meeting. The Seabed Mapping breakout session will be the first meeting of the Working Group and invited participants to discuss the Dublin Workshop agreements and to define a work plan for the group. The Atlantic Seabed Mapping Workshop report will be distributed prior to the meeting.

The topics to be addressed are:

Leveraging existing ocean exploration knowledge, infrastructure and programmes
1. Improving linkages across programmes; updating terms of reference; fostering involvement of industry
Integrating mapping, observation and forecasting initiatives. Communicating sharing of best practice and action on:
1. Survey planning (co-ordination and sharing capacity, trans-national access to platforms and skills);
2. Data collection (using the most appropriate technologies such as AUVs etc);
3. Distributed data warehouse (quality, formats, interoperability);
4. Data sharing (developed on open access principles);
5. Seabed mapping outputs (e.g high resolution bathymetry, roughness, gradient, sea-bed geology and habitat maps; linked international classification systems).
