Description
Open Sea Lab Competition: the first EMODnet Bootcamp on open marine data
15-17 November 2017, Start-up Village Antwerp, Belgium

EMODnet's 1st Open Sea Lab Bootcamp will take place in De Serre, Antwerp. Open Sea Lab will begin on Wednesday 15 November and run until Friday 17 November, culminating in a prize giving and evening reception. Inspirational speakers will open the event and optional, expert-led, come-and-go workshops will take place throughout the three days. We expect about 22 teams of around 5 people to participate in the Open Sea Lab. Teams will be offered coaching, and technical experts will be on hand to provide support throughout the event.
Join us at the Closing Award Ceremony
The Closing Session with Award Ceremony is open for those who are interested to hear about the results but not participating in the competition itself. If you want to attend, you need to register using the award ceremony registration form.

Why apply to the hackathon?
Whatever your background, you will come away from this event with new skills. If you have already a brilliant idea for an innovative application exploiting marine open data, you can use the hackathon to learn more about the different datasets, the available technological solutions and data-visualisation tools that you can adopt to improve your application. Additionally you can get support from the coaches and experts that will be present at the event. For free! They will help you in refining your ideas and enhance your technical, business modelling or pitching skills.
Don’t have an idea? No problem, we are organising an ideation sessions on Day 1 for brainstorming.

- Applicants will be selected based on their motivations and skills, to ensure a diversity of expertise (creative, technical, business). If you do have a precious idea, don’t worry, you don’t have to share it yet. Just tell us your reason for applying and your background
- Individuals or incomplete teams will be matched to form complete teams, combining all the necessary elements to develop a winning concept.
- Numbers are limited to 120, 20 teams of 4-5 people, so the sooner you apply, the better your chance of being selected!
