On 20 May 2021, the European Atlas of the Seas participated in the online workshop'Ocean literacy through visualisation and storytelling: local, regional and international examples' hosted by the Irish Ocean Literacy Network (IOLN).
This workshop explored best practices used in current ocean literacy initiatives and presented some of the most inspiring ocean literacy “stories”. Participants shared knowledge and expertise, and discussed ocean literacy in Europe.
The workshop was moderated by Noirin Burke, Co- Secretariat of the Irish Ocean Literacy Network. Speakers included:
- Patrícia Conceição, Directorate General for Maritime Policy, Portuguese Blue Schools (Escola Azul)
- Easkey Britton, world-renowned surfer, marine social scientist and writer and member of the IOLN
- Nicola Bridge, President, European Marine Science Educators Association
- Nathalie Van Isacker, EMODnet Secretariat, European Atlas of the Seas
