EMODnet MedSea Checkpoint in few words
The concept of EMODnet Checkpoints was introduced within the Marine Knowledge 2020. The Checkpoint overall aim is to assess thefitness for use of the existing monitoring systems at the sea basin level for 7 end-user applications (Challenges) in different economic and environmental sectors: a) the marine resources industry (offshore wind farming, fisheries), b) the marine environment sustainability (eutrophication, river inputs and ocean climate change impacts), c) marine emergencies management (oil spills from platforms), d) preservation of natural resources and biodiversity (Marine Protected Areas).
The results of the Checkpoint assessment will be collected in a ‘Data Adequacy Report’ which will be presented at the meeting. This first report is analyzing the 'Availability' of the input data sets for the Challenges. The Availability is a measure of how the Challenge input data sets can be obtained in terms of visibility, accessibility, performance and reliability. From the metadata-base collected for each Challenge, a set of indicators is developed to show quantitatively the fitness for use and its dependency on the Challenge.
