Description
The Commission Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE), assisted by the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), is organising the high-levelEvent that will take place in Brussels on 17 October 2024.
The Common Information Sharing Environment for the maritime domain (CISE) is an EU initiative which aims to make EU Member States surveillance systems interoperable to give all relevant authorities from different sectors access to additional classified and unclassified information they need to conduct their missions at sea. The development of CISE remains a key EU policy deliverable for the EU maritime security, as highlighted again in the revised EU Maritime Security Strategy and Action Plan, approved by the Council in October 2023.
Member State authorities carry out many different operational surveillance tasks, in various fields such as maritime safety, security and prevention of pollution by ships, fisheries control, marine pollution preparedness and response, marine environment, customs, border control, general law enforcement and defence. By facilitating a rapid and secure access to additional added-value and critical information, CISE will enhance maritime domain awareness and effectiveness as well as cost-efficiency of maritime surveillance activities, critical in a moment of changing and growing challenges at sea.
Thanks to the joined work of Member States and the Commission, assisted by EMSA, all the building blocks of CISE have been established during the transitional phase (2019-2024) and the operational phase started on 1st July 2024. CISE counts today 15 nodes connecting more than 30 maritime authorities from Member States as well as EU Agencies. The “CISE-Alert project”, funded by the EU, has contributed to the development of CISE and its results are very relevant for the operational phase.
The CISE high-level event will be the opportunity for EU policy makers, EU Agencies, Member State representatives and other stakeholders to stake stock of the progress of CISE, but also to exchange views on its future developments in the light of growing threats in the maritime domain.
The event will take place at Thon Hotel EU, Rue de la Loi 75, 1040 Brussels, and it includes complementary coffee and lunch breaks.
Kindly note that participants are expected to cover their own travel and accommodation costs.
We encourage you to register as soon as possible to reserve your spot. Registrations will be reviewed on a daily basis, and we recommend applicants not to make any travel arrangements until their registration is confirmed. We will review all expressions of interest and we will confirm your participation by email.
The registration deadline is 4th October.
