CMMI’s event “Our Sea - Let’s make the Med blue” is taking place between the 24th and 25th of September in Ayia Napa and Larnaca in the framework of the Mediterranean Ocean Literacy Festival and CMMI’s ocean literacy programme. The event which is also supported by the Unit for Education for the Environment and Sustainable Development of the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture aims at bringing young people and especially pupils / children closer to the sea, teach them to respect it, protect it and love it by involving them in a series of interactive, entertaining, educational and sports activities. Such activities are the realization of workshops at the Cape Greco Environmental Information and Education Centre aiming to inform pupils on the “treasures” of the sea (shells, fish, reefs) and the importance of protecting the marine environment. Relevant audio-visual material will be presented by CMMI marine scientists and researchers followed by interactive dialogue/quizzes with the children. Moreover, fairy tales related to the sea will be presented and distributed to them as well as a puzzle which will have as a theme the marine environment. In addition, an unmanned surface vehicle (USV) will be presented to the children by CMMI scientists using relevant audiovisual material. Furthermore, a tour of the Cape Greco Environmental Information and Education Centre will be given to the children, so that they explore the stunning nature surrounding it and familiarize themselves with information on the land and marine ecosystems of the Cape Greco peninsula as well as with the Centre’s activities. Finally, a SUP tour will be held in the area of Oroklini in Larnaca, with the participation of people above 18 years old, families and water sports aficionados.

The activities that will take place on the 24th of September will start at 7:00 (CEST). Recordings of these activities will be exclusively made available for the Ocean Literacy Festival on 25th September. The activity that will take place on the 25th of September will start at 5:15 (CEST).
