The MEDBLUE virtual event is part of the Strategic Cooperation with Cluster Maritime Tunisien, in order to strengthen the cooperation between the maritime clusters of Italy and Tunisia and to relaunch the blue economy in the Mediterranean. The event, which is part of the activities of the Alliance of Maritime Clusters WestMED, is organised with the contribution of the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics - OGS, and will be attended by the Italian Ambassador in Tunis, H.E. Lorenzo Fanara.

The initiative is linked to the strategic agreement between the Blue Italian Growth (BIG) cluster and the Cluster Maritime Tunisien (CMT), signed on 9 June 2020, which establishes a framework of systemic collaboration for joint projects, initiatives and funding programmes. Both countries are interested in working together in all sectors of the blue economy: blue skills, shipbuilding, fisheries, aquaculture. The role of the two clusters in this area will be to steer, harmonise and implement these areas of cooperation. The process towards closer cooperation between the clusters has benefited from the technical assistance of the WestMED initiative and the Italian Embassy in Tunis.

The MEDBLUE event, initially planned in physical mode during the first months of 2021, has been moved to virtual mode as a result of the health pandemic situation and will see the active participation, in addition to the members of the two Clusters and the Westmed assistance mechanism, of the main players in marine-maritime cooperation.
