2nd EMODnet-Copernicus Marine Thematic Workshop on Coastal Issues
Date: 22 September 2022 14:00-17:15 CEST
Location: Hybrid in Brussels (Tribes offices, Rue des Colonies 56, 1000 Brussels; room Sumanga (2.11) on second floor) and online (Zoom)
Invited Participants (see Annex I for names and affiliations):
- EMODnet: Secretariat, thematic and data ingestion Coordinators, technical experts & Sea-basin Checkpoint Coordinators
- Copernicus Marine Service: Mercator Ocean International and Copernicus Marine Service INSTAC
- European Commission: DG MARE, DG DEFIS, CINEA
Main aims of the workshop: The workshop will be an invitation-only, focused on dialogue between the two EU marine data services EMODnet and Copernicus Marine Service with a specific focus on the coastal area. The meeting will bring together EMODnet, Copernicus Marine, and inter-DG representation to discuss marine data and data products and information on Coastal behavior. Prior to the meeting, input will be gathered by MOi from Copernicus Land and Emergency Management Services (EEA and JRC).
Objectives include assessing existing capabilities and emerging areas for collaboration across EMODnet themes and between EMODnet and Copernicus Marine, in particular with a regional focus, and defining concrete joint contributions to European (e.g. EU DTO, Green Deal) and global (UN Ocean Decade) initiatives/strategies. This will build on the first joint workshop on coastal issues on 16 June 2020.
Outputs: Key messages on joint/aligned coastal activities of EMODnet and Copernicus Marine Service will be produced.
Moderator Chair: Zoi Konstantinou (DGMARE) and Fabienne Jacq (DG Defis) (to be confirmed)
Platform: Physical meeting in Brussels (TRIBES, Rue des Colonies 56/Kolonienstraat 56, Brussels) with online platform hosted by EMODnet Secretariat (to be confirmed).
