Currently, technical, financial, regulatory, and other barriers prevent many EU fishers, aquaculture producers from accelerating the energy transition in the sector. Working together with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve concrete and practical solutions is therefore essential for making the transition. The Energy Transition Partnership (ETP) was one of the key actions announced in the Communication and launched by the Commission in June 2023, to improve governance in the sector, by fostering cooperation, knowledge sharing, and stakeholder dialogue to accelerate the sector's energy transition.
The ETP welcomes all stakeholders with a genuine interest in accelerating the energy transition to collaborate voluntarily and drive progress in the sector. As a dynamic platform for dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge sharing, the ETP brings together a diverse range of stakeholders and their different perspectives to shape the future of energy in fisheries and aquaculture.
Participants in the Partnership will actively engage in thematic dialogues and workshops, focusing on key areas such as innovation, knowledge gaps, technology, skills, and finance. This collaborative effort lays the foundation for a voluntary roadmap, complete with measurable milestones and concrete actions, to guide the EU fisheries and aquaculture sector towards climate neutrality by 2050.
The roadmap, developed by stakeholders and the European Commission, is set to be delivered by 2025, marking a significant step in the sector's energy transition journey.
The ETP brings together key stakeholders to:
- Gather a community of actors;
- Start a dialogue within the sector about the opportunities and challenges of the energy transition;
- Discuss and develop common strategic approaches for furthering the energy transition in the sector;
- Contribute to a roadmap with concrete and feasible actions to accelerate the transition in the sector;
- Showcase concrete examples of initiatives from stakeholders, and give visibility to the projects and best practices on energy transition.
