It is a common action throughout Europe to raise awareness about the amount of waste that we throw uncontrollably into nature and promote individual and collective measures to reduce the generation of waste and encourage awareness actions through the collection of this waste dumped illegally in forests, beaches, riverbanks, etc. We choosed a beach to clean it up (Cala Pi).
We used a cross-curricular approach to our coastal environment. We have these three main objectives:
- To learn about our environment (know).
- To love our planet (appreciate).
- To take care of our planet (bring global awareness through local actions).
At school we studied the coast we were going to visit from differents points of view. We focused on pollution in the Mediterrenean Sea, causes and consequences and particulary At Cala Pi. We visited it, we observed it and made different kinds of learning activities depending of the age and the goals of every class. We cleaned up the beach. We swam in the sea and played.
Back to school we continued working and discussing about pollution, waste and how to prevent this global problem.
