My name is Zofia Drapella and I am an Environmental Educator and Outdoor Instructor. In my career I combine a passion for the oceans and exploration with interests in sustainability and education. I have graduated from the University of Southampton with a 4 year Integrated Masters in Marine Biology. I worked at the National Oceanography Centre, UK helping with oceanography fieldwork and teaching prospective students during Summer Schools. I am now employed by the Hampshire County Council and work in the outdoor education sector. I am lucky enough to spend my days talking to people of all ages about the importance of our oceans. We explore the environment on our doorstep and inspire people to care for the planet. In the past year I helped develop a Marine Explorers programme, which so far engaged 1700 visitors new to marine education, from 4-year-old pre-schoolers to 84-year-old pensioners! Each week we take participants on a journey of discovery, learning and exploration with engaging science, storytelling and arts. We do seine netting sampling, kayaking in the salt marshes, beach exploration, nurdle hunting and beach clean ups. We are not afraid to touch on the topics of climate change and sustainability. And of course we don’t forget to have a lot of fun!
