Waterborne Technology Open Consultation – Two new topics opened

The Waterborne Technology Platform (TP), platform representing the waterborne stakeholders in the EU, launched two consultations on Technology Roadmaps focused on:

• Blue Economy Technology  
• Maritime Technology Sector 

The consultation provides the waterborne community with a final opportunity to identify missing elements, suggest additions, and validate proposed priorities in the three domains listed above.

Participation from the ETP community is particularly important, to reflect the EU Fisheries and aquaculture sectors needs for its energy transition, these Waterbone TP roadmaps will encompass research, development, innovation, upscaling and deployment to support a competitive, resilient and sustainable waterborne sector by means of Waterborne Technology Leadership. 

The deadline for submission is Wednesday 29 July 2026, close-of-business.

Background

The Waterborne Technology Platform (WATERBORNE TP) is the European technology and innovation platform for the waterborne sector, bringing together shipowners, shipyards, equipment manufacturers, ports, service providers, classification societies, universities and research organisations. Its role is to define common research, development and innovation priorities for Europe’s maritime sector, provide strategic guidance to EU institutions, and coordinate industry input into initiatives such as the Horizon Europe Zero-Emission Waterborne Transport (ZEWT) Partnership. WATERBORNE develops long-term visions and Strategic Research Agendas (SRAs) to strengthen the competitiveness, resilience and sustainability of the European waterborne industry. 

The Waterborne Technology Platform is currently developing 9 Technology Roadmaps, notably: maritime technology sector; port ecosystems, inland waterway transport, short sea shipping, ferries, cruise, oceangoing, offshore and blue economy. These roadmaps encompass research, development, innovation, upscaling and deployment to support a competitive, resilient and sustainable waterborne sector by means of  Waterborne Technology Leadership.
