Consultation for the Strategic Research & Innovation Agenda

The Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership has launched a public consultation aimed at updating its Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA). 

For members of the Energy Transition Partnership, the SBEP SRIA consultation offers a direct opportunity to share the EU fisheries and aquaculture energy transition perspective, the input will to help the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership to: 

• identify emerging research and innovation priorities and gaps; 
• strengthen the links between research, innovation, policy and implementation; 
• address barriers to scaling sustainable blue economy solutions; 
• improve the contribution of R&I to climate action, pollution reduction, biodiversity protection, resilience, competitiveness and security; and 
• shape a longer-term strategic perspective for the future ocean and blue economy.

Background 

The SRIA provides the strategic framework for the Partnership's joint research and innovation activities, helping to identify the priorities, knowledge needs and enabling conditions required to advance a sustainable, resilient and competitive blue economy. The most recent version, updated in 2024, is available here. 

To ensure the SRIA remains relevant and reflects a broad range of perspectives, the Partnership invites contributions from stakeholders across the blue economy, including research and innovation organisations, public authorities, funding organisations, industry and SMEs, investors, regional and sea-basin initiatives, NGOs and civil society. 

The consultation will help inform the update of the SRIA by gathering insights on emerging research and innovation priorities, knowledge gaps and opportunities for collaboration.
