The I3-4-SEAWEED project has launched its Open Call on 20 August 2025, creating a unique opportunity for startups and SMEs working in the algae sector. With applications open until 22 October 2025, this initiative aims to accelerate innovation and strengthen Europe’s algae value chains.
What’s on offer?
Up to 30 promising projects will be selected to receive:
- Financial support of up to €60,000
- Tailored technical and business guidance to boost market readiness and growth
Thematic focus
The Open Call is looking for solutions that can advance two key areas of algae development:
- Macroalgal Production Solutions – Enhancing cultivation methods both at sea and on land
- Algal Biotechnology & Downstream Applications – Unlocking new value chains through innovative processing and analytics
Who can apply?
The call is open to SMEs and startups located in eligible European regions. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the full eligibility criteria and submission details available on the official website.
What’s next?
In addition to the funding opportunity, the I3-4-SEAWEED project is developing an online Knowledge Hub dedicated to seaweed hatchery, cultivation, remote sensing, and specific applications. The project plans to share its outputs via the EU4Algae platform, ensuring wider access to valuable insights and tools for the algae community.
