How can we show a mechanic in Slovakia, a postal worker in Luxembourg, or a criminal lawyer in Austria that the ocean is a crucial part of their daily lives? How can we persuade them that their daily actions influence the ocean in return?
On 25 September 2020, the EU4Ocean workshop “Designing Ocean Literacy action in Europe” built momentum for collective actions and knowledge sharing. At the three parallel thematic workshops, we discussed and gathered ideas on how to help citizens in European landlocked or inland areas become Ocean Literate. The three themes of the parallel workshops were:
- Climate and Ocean,
- Food from the Ocean, and
- Healthy and Clean Ocean.
Organised as World-Café style workshops, anybody with innovative, out-of-the-box ideas was welcome, and had the opportunity to share ideas with other Ocean Literacy enthusiasts, experts, and people interested in ocean issues.
We came up with a list of ideas to help us turn anyone into an Ocean Champion. We hope to pave the way towards collective initiatives addressing these key ocean challenges.
