The workshop followed up on the Workshop on Financial Engineering that took place in May 2022. During that workshop, it emerged that for a number of reasons, some blue economy SMEs struggle to raise capital on the private market. Quite often, rather than little interest in the blue economy from investors, this might be a problem of “investor readiness”. SMEs and investors do not necessarily speak the same language; hence it is fundamental for entrepreneurs to explain their value proposition in a way that can be attractive to an investor.
Being “investor ready” implies understanding the criteria that investors will use to assess a business opportunity, so that they can decide whether they want to make an investment.
It is for this reason that we joined forces with BlueInvest to deliver a workshop to help EMFF/EMFAF project beneficiaries understand the key elements to frame their projects in the right way to raise interest from potential investors. A bespoke collaborative exercise was carried out to provide practical insights into investor readiness.
The workshop presented success stories, information and options for project coordinators to consider with the objective of becoming “investor ready” as well as of establishing synergies and stimulate potential cooperation in the blue economy.
